Is Mike Bianco Still Right for Ole Miss?

My question now that South Carolina has won the series against Ole Miss is, what more will it take for the Rebels to move on from Mike Bianco?

I know, I know, Ole Miss will never “fire” Bianco, much to the chagrin of some fans, but I think that ever since the CWS win, he has kind of lost his touch. I think that Bianco is still a good coach, he just hasn’t truly evolved in the last four seasons. He might be on that path with the hiring of Joel Mangrum, but it doesn’t really look that way as of now.

While I could very easily see Bianco calling it quits when he wants because he is essentially a made man because of that College World Series win, I also think that outside pressure from the fanbase might force their hand in letting him go.

Am I overreacting, possibly, but the Rebels are, at the time of writing this, on a four game skid that includes a loss to Little Rock. The series has already been lost in Columbia and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they got swept.

Here’s the main point that I’m trying to make: while I don’t think that Bianco will be gone in-season as that would be idiotic, I think that if this continues, Keith Carter needs to takes strong look at the baseball team and figure out if Bianco is the right person for the future of the team.

And hey, if Rebel fans are tired of baseball, our softball team is currently doing well and they have a brand new facility to boot. I highly recommend going to a game there, it’s really cool.
