Texas and Oklahoma are two of the biggest brands in college football and they are both entering their first season in the SEC. With both schools being huge brands in college football it has people wondering how they will do this season against SEC competition.
Who will have a better year one in the SEC?
Texas went to the College Football Playoff last season and was one or two plays away from being in the National Championship game. Oklahoma had an up-and-down 2023 season; they did beat Texas but did not end the season how they wanted.
Oklahoma is one of the most interesting SEC teams in 2024 because I could see them really struggling or being extremely good this season. With that being said Texas will have the better year one in the SEC because of two big reasons. First off, they have not one but two great quarterbacks in Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning. Secondly, they will be better in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Oklahoma has more question marks than Texas.
Oklahoma will have a freshman starting quarterback in Jackson Arnold and the SEC can cause many problems for young quarterbacks, especially on the road. Oklahoma has a very tough schedule with Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, Alabama, LSU, Texas, Missouri, and South Carolina. I think Oklahoma is going to struggle against the majority of those schools.
Texas on the other hand has a little bit of an easier schedule and has proven they can beat the best in the SEC by beating Alabama last season. I trust Coach Sarkisian more than Coach Venables. That's my biggest reason why I believe Texas will have a better year one in the SEC.
