It was a beautiful day in Austin, TX on Saturday as over 5000 fans gathered at Disch-Falk field to welcome back Texas Baseball. The Longhorns will officially start their 2025 season on February 14th at 7pm against the Louisville Cardinals at the Shriners Children's College Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX, but the annual Alumni Game gave Texas fans the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the many new faces on the 2025 squad in their 6-3 victory over the alumni. Here are The 3 Best from last Saturday.

  • Junior RHP Ruger Riojas - The UTSA transfer showed big velocity on his fastball and great command of his slider and curveball through 3 innings. Riojas only faced 12 hitters; striking out 4, giving up 1 single and having 2 baserunners reach on Texas fielding errors in his last frame of work.
  • Junior RHP Aiden Moffett - The most impressive of all the arms that threw in Saturday's alumni game, the LSU transfer boasts a mid 90s+ fastball with late run from the lefties, a changeup he can locate for strikes and a slider he can locate away from righties. Moffett struck out 3 in his 1 inning of work in relief.
  • Freshman C Cole Chamberlain - All the 6-2 215lb true freshman from California did was blast a 2 run HR on is very first swing as a Texas Longhorn to take the early lead from the alumni. The 409 foot HR left his bat at an impressive 109 mph and cleared the wall in deep right center field on its way to Comal St. Chamberlain would add a single and finish 2 for 3 at the plate on the day.

The new guys had themselves a day at the Disch. Who will The Best 3 from the Shriners Children's College Showdown be? Make sure to check www.secunfiltered.com after every Texas baseball midweek game and weekend series throughout the season for The 3 Best.
