Viva Las Vegas! The Texas Longhorns took their talents on the road over the weekend to play in the Las Vegas College Baseball Classic. Texas posted a 3-0 record and took home another trophy. We were there covering the action and here are our thoughts. Let's share a 12 Pack on a Tuesday...Vegas Style!

  • 2 of the 3 weekend starter roles are locked. Jared Spencer and Luke Harrison both had outstanding outings and posted their first wins of the 2025 season. Combining for 11 IPs, Spencer and Harrison scattered 10 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks and 16 Ks.
  • Good to see Easton Winfield get the bat going. After sitting for Friday and Saturday's games, Winfield got the start in LF on Sunday. His 2 for 3, 1 RBI performance should help build his confidence going forward.
  • Will Gasparino has the best walkup song on the whole team and he can absolutely mash the baseball. He didn't have his best weekend outing overall but he poked one out to left centerfield against Texas Tech that easily went 450 feet. The no doubtiest of no doubters. PS...if you know what his walk up song is, I need to add it to my playlist.
  • One name to start paying attention to is Dylan Volantis. The Freshman lefty continues to turn in strong performances in relief. Volantis came on with 2 runners and no outs in the 7th and finished with 3 IPs, 0 ERs, no walks, 5 Ks and a save.
  • Watching this team compete in person was a real treat. This is a tightly knit crew and the dugout vibe is great from the top down. This team has fun.
  • Max Belyeu just continues to pound baseballs. "My job up there is just to hit the ball hard" - Max on not being disappointed that nothing left the yard for him on Sunday. Job well done!
  • Still too many errors. It hasn't really hurt them yet, but Texas can't afford to give up free bases as they move into SEC play. Texas defenders committed 7 errors in Las Vegas.
  • After struggling offensively in the Dartmouth series, the Horns found their bats again in Sin City. Texas hitters had 40 hits, 18 for extra bases, and scored 35 runs in their 3 games over the weekend. Stay hot!
  • The wind was blowing out 25-30mph on Sunday. I would have bet almost anything that the Horns would have a handful of HRs. Not one. "That's the way baseball go" - Ron Washington
  • Kade Bing has has 3 starts in 2025. 1 was rough, 1 was great, 1 was in between. The Sunday starter is still adjusting to changes made to his grip on several pitches and is probably still battling nerves. He's got some serious stuff he's locked in. If he can find some consistency, the starting 3 for Texas are going to be tough.
  • We knew it was only a matter of time before Jalin Flores started being Jalin Flores at the plate. The talented SS hit .500 with 2 HRs, 3 doubles and 4 RBI on the weekend.
  • Something is different about the 2025 version of Texas Baseball and I can't wait to find out how far they can go
