Opening Weekend is upon us and we are just a couple of days away from the start of the 2024 College Baseball Season.
While we know that most SEC teams like to open up with a so-called "tune up series" against lesser competition, there are a few teams that will be going straight into games against high quality teams, so let's check those games out.
The Tennessee Volunteers will be headed down to Arlington, Texas to participate in the Shriner's Children College Showdown. Their weekend will consist of games Oklahoma, Baylor, and 21st ranked Texas Tech.
This will be the Vols second consecutive year opening the season with a tournament, as last year they went out to Arizona and played in the MLB Desert Invitational. The Vols are coming off of a season in which they went 7-13 on the road, as well as 4-4 at neutral sites.
The Vols will look to correct these road woes and look to get off to a strong start to their 2024 campaign.
In what could be a potential sneaky weekend series, the USC Upstate Spartans will host the Kentucky Wildcats. The Spartans may very well be the favorite to win the Big South this season after the departure of Campbell.
Another interesting weekend series will be Ole Miss hitting the road and heading to Hawaii for a four game series to open the season. The Rainbow Warriors went an impressive 19-7 at home last season. This should be a good early-season test for a Rebels team looking to get back on track.
All other SEC teams should have an easy weekend taking care of the non-conference opponents at the beginning of their schedules.
