Quinn Ewers took Texas to their first college football playoff game and finished the season 12-2 with their best season in a decade. Ewers had a great season last year while passing for 22 touchdowns and 3,479 yards. That said, Ewers has the hardest job of any college football player in the country because Arch Manning is breathing down his neck.
Arch Manning, nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning is the backup quarterback at Texas and played fantastic in the Texas spring game. Manning threw for 326 yards and 3 touchdowns, with Arch playing so well this adds a ton of pressure to Quinn Ewers because expectations are so high at Texas and they have an excellent team. Quinn Ewers has to play like one of the best quarterbacks in the country and lead his team to a great season.
Being one of the best quarterbacks in the country and leading a program like Texas is already hard enough and a ton of pressure. Ewers also has the pressure of if he can not do that he has Arch Manning ready to take his spot. Arch Manning is the golden boy of one of the most prominent football families in the country. Strictly from a financial standpoint if Arch were to be QB1 Texas would sell millions of dollars worth of Manning Jerseys.
Texas would make an insane amount of money from Arch Manning’s name. Before Texas played Washington in the CFP game there was a CFP media day. There is a moment where Arch Manning has at least a dozen reporters asking him questions while Ewers has zero reporters around him while he is looking over at Arch. Texas is about to play in their biggest game in a decade and reporters are focused on Arch Manning.
The two quarterbacks have a great relationship but at the same time that would take a toll on most people. Ewers is going to be put under a microscope for everything he does. Ewers is the starting quarterback at Texas. This is a program that demands greatness. They love their football and invest in the program heavily.
This is an unprecedented time in college football where if Quinn Ewers does not play like a 1st round NFL draft pick it could get really loud in Austin. Both quarterbacks are outstanding and are starters at most college football programs. I am looking forward to seeing how the Longhorns fair this season with Texas coming into the SEC.
