Auburn Head Coach Hugh Freeze will be going into year two of his tenure. How good will the Tigers be in the 2024 season?

The Auburn Tigers had an up-and-down 2023 season where they looked great at times playing some of the best teams in the SEC but they also struggled especially at the quarterback position.

Payton Thorne was the starter in 2023 and he transferred from Michigan State where he had success—Thorne’s first season in the SEC had ups and downs just like his team did. Any new starting quarterback in the SEC is going to have some tough games because of how difficult it is to play in the SEC.

This upcoming season will be huge for Payton Thorne and Auburn will go as far as Payton Thorne takes them. Thorne is a dangerous runner who is very quick and smart running the football. Thorne will have to pass the ball better in 2024 for the Tigers to have success. Auburn played some excellent teams like Georgia, Alabama, and Ole Miss last season. I expect Auburn to make strides this season and be a tough team to beat.

Coach Freeze is an excellent coach and he has the Tigers moving in the right direction. Auburn has great incoming players like five-star receiver Cam Coleman, five-star edge Amaris Williams, four-star receiver Perry Thompson, and Penn State transfer receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith. Payton Thorne will have some great weapons in Lambert-Smith and Cam Coleman.

This Auburn team can be very good this season and I expect Auburn to go 8-4 this season. It all depends on Payton Thorne and how well the passing offense can be.
