Weekend recap
Kentucky is starting to play its best ball at the right time. If the Wildcats shoot the ball as well as they did in the second half, everyone better watch out.
Reed Sheppard was unbelievable and hit some incredible shots in the second half. He finished the game with 27 points. Antonio Reaves was also very good, as I thought he showed a great ability to score at all three levels. His floater is an incredible weapon. Justin Edwards was the X-factor in this game as he hit four key threes.
I wouldn’t be too worried about the Vols, as this was a very tough spot for them. This was the last game of a brutal four game stretch, and they went 3-1. They had already won the league and it was a very emotional day for the seniors. Dalton Knecht put on an absolute show, as he scored 40 points
Alabama pulled off a win at home over Arkansas in overtime. You have to be worried about the Tide right now, as they still can not guard anyone. Arkansas scored at will and this Razorback team is not the greatest scoring team either.
I’m also worried that the Tide is too reliant on the three point shot. The Tide have zero inside presence right now and if they aren’t hitting perimeter shots then it will be hard for them to win. I still believe that Arkansas can make some noise in Nashville, as they are starting to find some things and playing a lot better team ball.
The Texas A&M Aggies go to Ole Miss and win in blowout fashion. A&M is starting to play better ball as of late, but it might be too late. Looks like they will need to win the SEC tournament in Nashville this week to make it into the big dance.
Wade Taylor and Tyrese Radford are starting to get contributions from others and that is a big reason for their recent success. This is another dangerous squad heading into the SEC tournament.
Chris Beard has done a great job at Ole Miss, but this team has never been an NCAA tournament team, as they loaded up on an easy non league schedule.
South Carolina just keeps winning close games. I was so impressed with their performance coming off the loss to Tennessee. I thought this would be a tough game for the Gamecocks, as MIssissippi State has lost a couple games in a row. BJ Mack played really well and thought his perimeter shooter was key. The balanced scoring was key for the Gamecocks.
Mississippi State has lost four in a row and seems to be reeling after the Kentucky loss. These losses have the Bulldogs on the bubble and need at least one win this week to feel good for the big dance.
Vanderbilt upsets Florida, in what is a very bad loss for the Gators and could cost them a seed for the NCAA tournament. I am still high on the Gators, but this is a bad performance.
Auburn took care of business over Georgia, as the Tigers have fallen off the radar in the national media. I am still not sure what the Auburn Tigers are heading into Nashville. The MIssouri Tigers complete a winless conference season, as they lose to LSU.
SEC Tournament preview first round
The SEC tournament starts on Wednesday and I will have daily recaps on what happens in Nashville. This should be one of the best tournaments this week and there are so many storylines heading into it. I could see almost six teams that could win it.
I still think Tennessee and Kentucky will be playing on Sunday and think the Vols will cut the nets down on Sunday.
Arkansas vs. Vandy
Both teams are starting to play better and Vanderbilt is coming off a win over Florida. Arkansas played well enough to beat Alabama on Saturday.
I look for Tramon Mark to be really aggressive and Khalif Battle. Battle has been playing at an all conference type level this past month for the Razorbacks. Jerry Stackhous will have his team prepared and ready to go. He is a great in game coach and really runs a great offense.
Vanderbilt should come in with some confidence, but I like the Razorback in this one.
Missouri vs. Georgia
Georgia has some talent and I really like Silas Demery. I think Demery is one of the bright young players in this league. Georgia has been struggling the last part of the year and have not been shooting the ball great.
This game all depends on if MIssouri is interested in playing. I could see a way the Tigers pull off the upset, but they seem to find ways to lose games all year.
