College football has changed more in the last five years than it has in the previous fifty. Players are getting paid and the conferences are getting totally realigned. Oklahoma and Texas are in the SEC starting this season.

The Big 10 will have four new schools entering the conference: UCLA, USC, Washington, and Oregon. Almost every big-name program in the country is in the SEC or the Big 10 forming 2 super-conferences.

There are only a couple big named programs that are not in those two conferences. Those schools are Clemson, Notre Dame, Miami, and Florida State. Notre Dame has been independent for years and the other schools are in the ACC.

There have been a lot of talks that Clemson and Florida State want out of the ACC and into the SEC or Big 10. It would make a lot of geographical sense for them to move to the SEC because they are closer to the majority of the SEC schools than they are to Big 10 schools. If Clemson and Florida State moved to the SEC that would be horrible for South Carolina and Florida.

South Carolina and Florida’s biggest recruiting pitch is that they are in the SEC, the best conference in college football. If Clemson and Florida State were to move to the SEC it would make it more difficult for South Carolina and Florida to recruit. If I was Florida or South Carolina I would do everything I can to prevent them from coming to the SEC. Florida and South Carolina both struggled last season.

Clemson has won 2 National Championships recently and Florida State almost just went to the college football playoff. The last thing South Carolina and Florida should want is for it to get easier for their rival schools to get recruits and funding. The SEC would allow Clemson and Florida State to make a lot more money than they are making in the ACC.

The current state of college football is always changing and I think Clemson and Florida State will be out of the ACC in the near future. It is just about whether they go into the SEC or Big 10.
