Auburn’s defensive front was upgraded in a big way this spring portal with the addition of USC transfer Isaiah Raikes, Arkansas State transfer Keyron Crawford, and Indiana transfer Philip Blidi.
Blidi started his collegiate career at Texas Tech University for the first three years and most recently played his senior season at Indiana. Blidi brings in 67 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and a pass deflection.
With one more year of eligibility, Blidi is set to see the field and be an important defensive contributor for the Tigers this season.
Interview With Philip Blidi
SH: “What drew you initially to Auburn University?”
PB: “I really loved the history Auburn has for putting defensive lineman in the NFL. Another reason is Coach Durkin’s scheme and how it utilizes defensive linemen.”
SH: “What’s your thoughts on Coach Williams?”
PB: “Coach Williams is an amazing coach and man. He knows what he’s talking about and how to simplify things. His passion for the game was evident from our first conversation and I truly trust him to develop me into the player and man I’m trying to become. He told me it’s for life, and I’m gonna hold him to it.”
SH: “What do you think the biggest adjustment from Indiana to Auburn is or will be?”
PB: “After being in Indiana for a year, I have to get readjusted to the heat. Hopefully it won’t take me too long since I did play in Lubbock.”
SH: “What’s your thoughts on Coach Durkin?”
PB: “Coach Durkin is a genuine guy. He’s a high energy coach, and just a high energy person overall. I’m really excited to learn from him this year.”
SH: “Whose play style inspires and influences you?”
PB: “Quentin Williams is a player who inspires me. I like how violent he plays and how he uses his hands especially in the run game.”
SH: “What’s something that Auburn fans should know about Philip Blidi?”
PB: “People should know even though I’m sometimes shy, I am actually a people person. I am big on family and I love to do outdoor things like fishing or hiking. I like to cook good food and love to eat good food.”
SH: “What tradition of Auburn’s are you looking forward to most?”
PB: “Rolling toomers!!! I am going to be right there with everyone, cannot wait!”
