The Dallas Cowboys have given the nod to Brian Schottenheimer, the former Georgia offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The move comes less than two weeks after the Cowboys parted ways with Mike McCarthy. Schottenheimer, who has served as Dallas’ offensive coordinator for the past two seasons, will be formally introduced during a press conference Monday.

His coaching career after he became a national champion for the Florida Gators. He then took on a role as an assistant coach for the (then) St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs in the late 1990s. After a collegiate stint where he served as a wide receivers coach for USC, he returned to the NFL as quarterbacks coach for the Washington Commanders in 2001. In total, Schottenheimer has been in the coaching ranks for approximately 28 years, either in a positional or offensive coordinator capacity.

Among Schottenheimer several candidates, including Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, and former Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier interviewed for the job. Schottenheimer emerged as a serious candidate late in the process, meeting with team owner and general manager Jerry Jones and other executives on Tuesday before holding a second meeting on Wednesday. No other candidate received a follow-up interview, and Schottenheimer’s discussions with Jones reportedly spanned multiple days.
