The NFL Draft is approaching and there are a lot of NFL teams that are looking for a new quarterback. Drafting quarterbacks is a very hard job to do because it is so unpredictable and hard to predict who could be a star.
The Top 5 Quarterbacks expected to be off the draft board first are Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Michael Penix, and Bo Nix. Just about every season there is one quarterback that is taken later that ends up surprising people and I think it will be Spencer Rattler.
Spencer Rattler played his last 2 seasons at South Carolina and this past season he made a lot of improvements. He made steps to look more athletic with his escape and running ability and decision-making. He looked like a first-round quarterback this season but the Gamecocks went 5-7 and struggled to protect him throughout the season.
Spencer Rattler threw for 3,186 yards and 19TDs last season. I think that if his team was more healthy and they played better around him he would have been a lock for a first-round pick around the 20th-32nd pick mark.
I saw a smarter, more composed, and calm quarterback in him this past season. He was a leader and a team guy that never said any negative things about his teammates even when the team was struggling. That will translate to the NFL with being able to form relationships and earn the respect of his teammates.
Spencer Rattler attended the annual Reese’s Senior Bowl where he went 4-4 for 65 yards and 1 touchdown. Rattler won the MVP award for his outstanding play in the practices and the game. After Rattler’s Pro Day, NFL Combine, and Reese’s Senior Bowl performance multiple NFL scouts have Rattler moving up the draft board. If Rattler gets drafted to a good team I think he could see a lot of success early on.
With the right situation, Rattler could end up having the 2nd or 3rd best NFL career out of QBs in the 2024 draft.
