We have officially entered the long and dreary offseason of the college football calendar and aside from transfer portal talk, it's pretty quiet around Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide football program.

While the offseason can feel like an eternity, it does provide us with an opportunity to take a deep breath and look at certain position groups and project what they might look like entering the 2024 college football season.

One particular position group that stands out for the Crimson Tide is the inside linebackers. Alabama returns its two starters from last season in Deontae Lawson and Jihaad Campbell and those two potentially form the best off-ball linebacker duo in the country.

Lawson is entering his redshirt junior season and has flashed his elite ability for a couple of seasons now. Campbell worked his way into the starting lineup last season as a true sophomore and made some eye-popping plays along the way.

With new defensive coordinator Kane Wommack bringing in the4-2-5 defense, athleticism will be at a premium for the inside linebackers and both Lawson and Campbell fit the bill.

Both Lawson and Campbell are instinctive players and provide physical support against the run but enough finesse to play coverage against running backs and tight ends.

Lawson finished the 2023 season with 67 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks while also deflecting 8 passes. Campbell totaled 66 tackles,4 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks while also hauling in one interception. Campbell also made of the biggest defensive plays of the season with his fumble recovery for a touchdown against Tennessee.

Lawson and Campbell should be a lot of fun to watch this fall.
