Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team are fresh off the programs first-ever Final Four run and they don't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. On Sunday afternoon, Coach Oats and the Tide received a commitment from one of the most talented point guards in the class of 2024.
Labaron Philon, who was recently released from his national letter of intent at Kansas, wrapped up his visit with Alabama by committing. Philon's commitment bumped Alabama's already impressive class to the No. 2 overall ranked class according to 247Sports.
With Philon's commitment, Alabama now has four of the top 50 high school prospects set to join the team for the 2024-25 college basketball season. Aside from Coach Oats' incredible high school recruiting efforts, Alabama has also done well in the transfer portal adding three out of the top 100 from the portal and potentially more to come.
With the good possibility that Mark Sears and Grant Nelson return to Tuscaloosa for another season, it is very likely that Alabama will be preseason top five, maybe even top three. Simply stated, Nate Oats is building one of the most elite programs in college basketball and set to remain in Tuscaloosa for the foreseeable future, signing a massive contract extension with one of the largest buyouts in the sport.
With Coach Oats being a young and spry 49 years old, the Tide will not be going away anytime soon. Nick Saban said it best in January of 2010 after winning his first national championship as the Crimson Tide's head coach, "this is not the end, this is the beginning".
I am not saying Coach Oats will deliver multiple championships, but he is building a basketball powerhouse in Tuscaloosa and he's just getting started.
