As we all know, the SEC is as stacked of a conference as you'll find in the world of college baseball. You have your powerhouses like Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, LSU, Tennessee, and Florida. There are also teams like Arkansas and South Carolina that always find themselves in the mix.
One team I'm keeping an eye on this year in particular are the Texas A&M Aggies.
The Aggies are headed into the 2024 campaign with the #4 transfer portal class in the nation. Highlighted by Braden Montgomery, the Aggies also added Ali Camarillo, a shortstop from Cal State Northridge.
Camarillo and Montgomery will insert directly into the middle of the lineup, giving protection to the returning Jace LaViolette. LaViolette is coming off of his 2023 campaign in which he hit .287 with 21 homers and drove in 63 runs. LaViolette also added an impressive 1,047 OPS.
The Aggies also added arms in the transfer portal, one of those being Jacksonville State transfer Tanner Jones. Jones went 7-3 with a 4.67 ERA. Jones averaged over a strikeout per inning with 84 in 79 innings at JSU. Adding Jones to a rotation with the returning Evan Aschenbeck and transfer Braden Montgomery could be a problem for SEC lineups.
Be on the lookout for the Aggies making some noise down in College Station this season as they look to return to Omaha.
