With National Signing Day coming to a close, the recruiting landscape for the class of 2024 finally ends. Teams can nowstart getting ready for spring training and camp season where the recruiting trail starts to heat up in the Class of 2025 and 2026.
But who has the best recruiting class in the SEC? Today, I’ll be giving you my Top 5 SEC schools that impressed me with their signing class. This is only going to include the high school ranks, as we’ll have the transfer portal class in a separate article out soon.
5. Auburn
Notable signees: Cam Coleman, Amaris Williams, Walker White, Demarcus Riddick, Jamonta Waller
Hugh Freeze has done a remarkable job this recruiting cycle, pulling together Auburn’s first top 10 recruiting class since 2020.
The biggest goal this year was keeping recruits away from their crosstown rivals in Alabama, and they did a really good job this year of doing just that. They did get a bit of help with the loss of Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa (we’ll get to them later).
Nonetheless, a top 10 class is a huge win going into year two of the Hugh Freeze era.
4. LSU
Notable signees: Dominick McKinley, Dashaun McBryde, Trey’Dez Green
To say LSU got a blessing in disguise during the month of January is an understatement.
They went from being a mid-tier class in which fans were more or less looking forward to the 2025 recruiting cycle, to a couple of flips from some former Texas A&M commits, sending Tiger Nation into a frenzy. They needed a ton of help on the interior of their D-line and they got a future star in Dominick McKinley who should be a day one starter.
Dashaun McBryde is next in line to join a great cast of guys from DBU, and Trey’Dez Green is just a man amongst boys at Tight End who can play the slot receiver position really well.
3. Texas
Notable Signees: Colin Simmons, Ryan Wingo, Jerrick Gibson, Brandon Baker
Everything is bigger in Texas.
This recruiting cycle for Steve Sarkisian and company will be mostly focused on the two big fellas in Colin Simmons and Brandon Baker. The #3 offensive tackle in Baker will be a day one starter and will anchor the offensive line for years to come, he’s a dominant run blocker and his footwork is off the charts.
Everyone knows about what Colin Simmons brings to the table, long and lanky, his ability to dip and rip underneath offensive linemen and his speed to power is incredible when you watch him play. It’ll take a bit of time in the run game, but he’s going to be a force when he gets his moments.
2. Alabama
Notable signees: Jaylen Mbakwe, Zabien Brown, Zavier Mincey
Great start to the Kalen DeBoer era with the #2 recruiting class in the nation.
The secondary lost a lot of big time pieces with Kool-Aid McKinstry, Terrion Arnold, and Caleb Downs gone. But they got a great group of young guys to come in and replace those three in Mbakwe, Brown, and Mincey.
Jaylen Mbakwe has been compared to Stephon Gilmore, this is a guy that played QB last year in high school and he is extremely fast, expect him to be used a lot in the return game as well as a day one draft pick some day.
1. Georgia
Notable Signees: Ellis Robinson IV, Justin Williams, KJ Bolden, Chris Cole
Kirby Smart has owned the recruiting trail for the last three seasons and it continues in 2024.
Ellis Robinson IV is the biggest win for the Bulldogs, the #1 CB in the nation will be the most feared corner in all of college football when he steps out onto the field when Georgia plays Clemson on August 31st. There’s a reason QB’s don’t throw to him because of his ability to bait them to throw to his side, his ability to read their eyes all the way says a lot about him.
This class may be the big difference for Georgia to continue their quest for a dynasty in the 2020s.
