With FanDuel releasing their odds for the Golden Spikes, there were a couple things that stood out regarding odds for SEC players.
While most of the names like Jac Caglione, Tommy White, Braden Montgomery, and Thatcher Hurd are all familiar, I can’t help but notice one player missing, that has a shot to be a dark horse Golden Spikes candidate, and his name is Ethan Petry.
Petry is coming off of one of the greatest seasons of all-time from a freshman. Petry had an astounding average of .376, with 23 homers and 75 RBI's. One of these homers came off number-one pick Paul Skenes from LSU. Petry added another homer later in the same game against the Tigers.
Petry will be the focal point of the Gamecocks offense this season, where he will be protected in the lineup by guys like Gavin Casas and Cole Messina. This should line him up for just as good as a season if not better than his 2023 season.
UPDATE : Since the time of this article being written, Ethan Petry now has odds to win the Golden Spikes Award at FanDuel Sportsbook.
