Johnny Manziel. He will go down in SEC history as one of the most electrifying and controversial players ever to play the game.
He’s also one of the biggest busts in NFL history. He has not been relevant in the sport of football since 2019, with the only exception being the Untold documentary having been released on Netflix last year. Other than that, there has not been a lot from the former Heisman Trophy winner.
This past Saturday, Manziel put out a tweet on X that said that he would not be going to the Heisman Trophy ceremonies until Reggie Bush got his Heisman Trophy back. Let’s be honest. This is just another publicity stunt that he is currently pulling so he can get back into the national media and maybe even get back into the good graces of the world.
But, Reggie Bush does deserve his Heisman Trophy back, I do agree with Manziel on that part. Other than that, this is just something that he is doing to get his name back out on a national landscape, he knew that this was something that ESPN, CBS, NBC, was going to take advantage of.
He not only shared this on X, he also shared his opinion on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast, Club Shay Shay, “What Reggie did then is legal now that somebody could do, right?" Manziel said. "It wouldn't make him ineligible now, even though it did at the time. And in the grand scheme of things, I probably did way worse than Reggie."
He isn’t wrong whatsoever, he did do a lot worse, the only problem is that Manziel is around whenever social media was starting to take off, so he was put on display for a lot of people to see, unlike for Reggie Bush, social media was scarce, and it was hard to report on things that he might have done outside the football field that might put him in the national spotlight.
Johnny Manziel has always been a guy that will do anything to get himself into the spotlight, he's been a joke ever since he was in the pros, when his antics were put on full display during his two seasons in Cleveland. He’s been doing it since the Netflix documentary, and he is doing the same thing that he did after he won the Heisman Trophy in 2012.
