South Carolina has had an incredible season in basketball this year in men’s and women’s.
Coach Staley’s team is 32-0 and won the women’s SEC tournament and has been the #1 team in the country all season long. Coach Paris in his second season has his team 26-6 after being picked to finish last in the SEC in the preseason.
The Gamecocks men's team is in the SEC tournament and defeated Arkansas by 14 points on Thursday. The Gamecocks play Auburn on Friday, March 15th. The Gamecocks men’s team went 11-21 and missed the NCAA tournament last season. The men’s and the women’s team have had incredible seasons and both coaches and players should be given a lot of credit.
Coach Staley has been the best women’s college basketball coach in the country for the last couple of years. The Gamecocks women’s team has dominated college basketball. Leading a team to an undefeated regular season and SEC tournament is extremely impressive and hard to do. The Gamecock’s women’s team has had one of the best seasons in a long time and Coach Staley has done a great job keeping her team focused.
The job that coach Lamont Paris has done this season is one of the best coaching jobs in recent history. Coach Paris has had a more impressive season than Coach Staley because he is not working with 5 stars and no one expected them to be a top 25 team this season or even make the NCAA tournament.
Coach Paris in his second season had the Gamecocks ranked for the back half of the season and his team will be in the NCAA tournament. Coach Paris just won SEC Coach of the Year and his team won the most games in the regular season in school history. The South Carolina men's basketball program has not been good for a long time. The Gamecocks men’s team has been to the NCAA tournament twice since 2000 which is not very good at all. The team went 11-26 last season and is 26-6 this season.
Lamont Paris has had a more impressive season because the Gamecocks men's team has not been good in a long time. The amount of improvement from last year to this year is very unique and incredible. The Gamecocks just gave Lamont Paris an extension for 6 years for over $4 million dollars a year to keep coach Paris in Columbia.
Expect the Gamecocks to be in contention and in the NCAA tournament more often.
