The Missouri Tigers. What an electric year 2023 was for Eli Drinkwitz and his staff.
Coming off of a Cotton Bowl win over Ohio State, huge recruiting wins, and great transfer portal additions, somehow the narrative still hasn’t changed one bit from the outsiders. Missouri is still being doubted by many to make a postseason run in 2024. If you look closely at what Missouri will be tested with in 2024 and how they weathered the storm of the winter portal period, all they did was win.
Yes, they lost a good amount of staff on defense to LSU. To be a good Head Coach, you have to be able to replace your staff very well. In the case here I see no indications that Mizzouri will have some drastic fall off on defense. Fantastic now time flies to August where all is right and football is back.
If you look at the 2024 schedule for the Tigers it is very manageable. You can go ahead and pencil them in at 4-0.
A bye week in the week five slot as the tigers seek to prepare for a true test at Texas A&M. As of right now I think Mizzouri beats A&M. The 5-0 Tigers then go to a very rare away game at UMass. Follow that by your HomeComing game vs Auburn and you’re 7-0. Now with momentum in hand you go into the two games that undoubtedly make or break your season.
At Alabama, a bye week, then Oklahoma at home. 1-1 at the minimum would all but lock up a spot in the playoffs as the season unfolds with South Carolina, Mississippi State, and Arkansas. There should be no excuse to lose any of those games plain and simple.
That leaves Missouri at 11-1. Now, calling an 11 win season the expectation for hardly anyone is a stretch. That schedule is beyond a blessing as you catch all 3 teams you could potentially lose to in some sort of transition. That is the equivalent of winning the lottery to most.
Don’t count out Missouri this year at all. In fact count them in as a playoff lock.
