The spring transfer portal window is wide open in college football. Like it or not, players jumping ship has become the new norm and that doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon. But every once in awhile a college athlete will buck the trend and choose to charter his own course instead of following the crowd.
This is the case for Ty Simpson, the redshirt sophomore quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Despite being a former five-star recruit and receiving a ton of positive feedback from Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama coaching staff this spring, Simpson is opting to remain at Alabama and sit behind and compete with Jalen Milroe.
Simpson's decision to remain patient and trust Coach DeBoer breaks an unhealthy trend that has overtaken college athletics. Sure, the transfer portal is necessary and not all bad, but like anything, the unintended consequences have had their effects.
We will have to wait and see if Simpson's patience in Tuscaloosa will eventually payoff or not but it's just nice to see a young man stick it out instead of jumping ship.
